September is great month! It marks the beginning of the Runza soup season, Starbucks pumpkin spice lattes, the first day of fall, and homecoming.
Homecoming is an American tradition to welcome back alumni to your schools. This could be a great opportunity for you to invite your chapter’s FHA/FCCLA alumni back and reconnect with generations of past members.
Here are some tips on how you can start planning an event for your alumni:
- Talk to your current and/or past advisers to create a list of past members. Work to gather their contact information so that it is easier to reach out to them.
- Brainstorm ideas for your event. You could host an FCCLA at the Table dinner, social, mixer, chapter meeting, or anything else that would best fit your needs. Work to set a date, location, and time for your event.
- Send out invitation to current members and alumni. This could be done via letter, Google Forms, a Facebook event, or any of the numerous RSVP services online.
- Finally, hold your event! Hold activities that will help to open conversations between everyone there. Also, this would be a great time for you to talk with the alumni about joining the FCCLA Alumni & Associates (A&A)!
Nebraska FCCLA is trying to build up our network of A&A members, and a homecoming event is a great way for chapters to help that initiative! It only costs $5 to join A&A, and members will benefit themselves and current members through their support of FCCLA.
More information for A&A can be found at http://fcclainc.org/membership/alumni–associates.php, and alumni can join our Nebraska FCCLA A&A Network through this form: https://goo.gl/bT6C4o.
