Ready, Set, Go!

Hey Nebraska FCCLA, I hope you’ve enjoyed your (short) break from FCCLA in between Nationals and starting to prepare for the upcoming school year! That’s right, read the previous sentence again, it’s time to start brainstorming your new STAR projects and planning activities for your chapters. The fall semester is a very busy time for most FCCLA members because as leaders we are involved in so many different activities that keep us going! For that reason, these last couple weeks of summer are the perfect time to start working. The best way to get READY for an amazing year is to set goals.

Not only is it time to start thinking about STAR, but also your chapter service projects, ideas for membership, running for state office, and your district and state leadership conference plans. Take some time today to SET goals for your year in respect to FCCLA so you’re prepared to do what it takes to achieve them. I know it sounds crazy to think about life a year from now, but it’s important to visualize where you want to be next year….NATIONALS 2019! Of course, attending nationals is a great goal to have, but there are so many other opportunities for you to take advantage of. Do you want to be a part of the State Peer Officer Team or State Officer Team? Do you want to earn a gold medal at state? Do you want to apply for the State Degree? Do you want to hold an office in your chapter? Do you want to be more involved in your community? These are all great goals to set your sights on. Everybody’s FCCLA experience is very different so it is important to set goals YOU want to achieve right now!

Now it’s time to GO. Start by making a list of things you can do right away to work towards your new goals. Then, do little things every day to complete that list. If you want to apply for the state degree, start collecting for your portfolio. If you are a chapter officer, get in touch with the other officers to plan your back-to-school event. If you want to do STAR, look through the rubrics to see what event fits you best. Taking small steps now will lead to a much less stressful school year. Good luck! I can’t wait to see what you all accomplish this year!
