Easy Oreo Balls Recipe
Rylie Wright, First Vice-President
I’ve always loved cooking with my mom. I’m actually taking a Culinary II course this year because of all the memories I’ve made in the kitchen with my family. I don’t know why, but baking specifically just makes my heart happy (and my stomach, too!). I wanted to share with you a very simple recipe that my family makes almost every holiday just to give you a glimpse into my life and share a piece of me with all of the members of Nebraska FCCLA. So here it is, my families Easy Oreo Ball Recipe (honestly, it’s probably like every other Oreo Ball recipe but still)
Easy Oreo Balls Recipe
Makes: 10-15 Oreo balls, depending on the size you make them
Equipment:
- 1 large ziploc bag
- Rolling pin, hammer, anything to smash with OR a food processor
- Medium sized bowl
- Plate/platter
- Rubber scraper
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of Cream Cheese (1 package)
- 1 entire package of Oreo cookies
Optional Ingredients:
- Sprinkles of a variety of colors
- Melted Chocolate
- Mini Rolos, Reeses, or M&Ms
Instructions:
- Wash your hands and clean your area thoroughly (Place the cream cheese on the counter in the packaging)
- Place Oreos in your large Ziploc bag
- Take your rolling pin, hammer, or any other smashing device and hit the Oreos repeatedly. Break until the cookies are in small bits, I’d say 3cm or less. Don’t hit the bag too hard, or you will cause the bag to break. This is why it’s better to use a blunt object, there’s less of a chance to break the bag.
- Take the broken Oreos out of the bag and place them into your bowl.
- Take the cream cheese out of the packaging and add it to your bowl.
- Use your rubber scraper to fold/mix the broken bits of Oreo into the cream cheese until it is an even mixture of both.
- Once the mixture is even, take a small bit of it in your hand and roll it between both of your hands. This creates a ball shape, hence the name Oreo Balls. You can make these any size, but I usually make mine about a Tablespoon.
- Repeat until you have no remaining mix.
- Eat right away or cover and refrigerate until you can eat them. They don’t last forever, but they last for a decent amount of time.
Optional Instructions:
- SPRINKLES/CHOCOLATE: When you’re done rolling, dip the Oreo Ball in sprinkles or melted chocolate to cover the ball.
- MINI CANDIES: Before rolling, take a small bit of the mixture in your hand and flatten it slightly. Add in your mini candies, however many you choose. When finished adding, roll the mixture into a ball and continue the steps to the original recipe.
And there you have it! I love making Oreo Balls with my family and having the memories to go with them. I hope you can share this with your family, friends, or chapter and have fun making these too! Honestly, the only thing you really need to know is the ratio: 1 package of cream cheese to 1 package of Oreos. Oreo balls are simple enough that you can make them quickly and with younger family members but they also are super yummy! Bon Appetit!
