Becoming Active in Your Community

It’s that time of year to be thinking of summer break or at least counting down the days till school’s out! With that being said, spring and summer is a great time to get involved in your community!

  1. Volunteer at your local food pantry or thrift shop! During my freshman and sophomore year summers, I volunteered at my local thrift store and was able to meet and interact with community members.
  2. Babysit for some local families! Throughout my high school years, I was able to babysit for many families, and I loved it. I had my mom post on her Facebook page that I was looking for kids to watch, and I was so surprised by all the responses. It was a good allowance without committing to a full-time job.
  3. Work concession stands for baseball and softball games! Before school was out during my 8th grade year, I contacted the local baseball coach and asked if he needed someone to work during the games. I ended up working every summer with my friends leading up to my senior year and received over 100 volunteer hours through it.
  4. Coach a youth sports team! I have coached youth volleyball and soccer for three years now and have loved every minute of it. I get to interact with the youth and the adults in the community!

Hopefully, this article helped you find some ways to be active in your community!
